If you find yourself attracted to images of Bear, you may be able to learn something about yourself by studying the behavior of bears. According to the Animal Totems website, Bear teaches us to respect our natural hibernation cycles. Just as Bear rests during winter and reawakens during spring, we need spaces of rest and rejuvenation. Bear calls us to awaken the potential within ourselves and the power of our unconscious mind. I painted this after seeing some of Howard Post's work in a show.
A 24x24 oil on gallery wrapped canvas, this painting was a difficult composition to make work, a combination of several photographs and a bunch of imagination!

Organic Bison

If you are seeking abundance in your life, ask buffalo (bison) to walk with you and teach you her ways.The buffalo reminds us to give thanks for what we have, to respect all life forms and to honor the integrity of our own divine essence. It is a symbol of equality, sacrifice and service and can show us how to live in a state of understanding, acceptance and joy. It helps us release our self pity and awakens abundance within our consciousness. Buffalo is a powerful medicine to have and serves as a stepping stone towards healing our imperfections and reconnecting with mother earth and father sky.

Branded Barn near Joseph, Oregon

This little barn can be found outside of Joseph, Oregon, in Wallowa County. I don't know what the brand means, but I think it makes the barn look like it has a "smiley face". I had to stop myself from painting eyes :-).

This is a small painting, 8x8, oil on gallery wrapped canvas. It is headed up to Joseph, Oregon, and will be available for purchase at Kelly's Gallery on Main Street.

Painted Ponies

This painting is a metaphor for leaving the carousel of modern life, where we all run around in circles, faster and faster, never getting anywhere, our expressions frozen on our faces. These ponies have traded their jeweled bridles and saddles for war paint. They’ve broken away from the safety and boredom of the carousel, into the uncertainty and exhilaration of freedom.

Moon Shadows

In this painting I've returned to one of my favorite subjects - the shadows cast by a full moon on a blanket of snow. I like the mysery of this piece, and how the horse is comfortable being alone, with only her shadow for company.

Dark Side of the Moon

In this painting I explore the concept of inner journey, and the mystery that surrounds every foray into the unknown.

This is an intuitive painting in that I started it without any concept of what the painting would be. I let the image emerge from the paint. To me, this painting is about the side of ourselves that we keep hidden, even from ourselves. It is like a dark closet where we throw in all self-doubt and anger, guilt and shame, resentment and grief, pain and remorse. We keep that door tightly shut, because those feelings don’t jive with the sunny face we present in our everyday lives. The face that is expected, accepted, counted on. But as we embark on the journey of self-discovery, we must face that part of us that we fear and let go judgments.
